On Saturday, February 2, 2019, at approximately 9:02 pm, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 7-Eleven located at 15021 McGregor Boulevard, Fort Myers, in reference to a just-occurred robbery to the business with a firearm.
The rapid response of West district patrol deputies confirmed a robbery had occurred. Deputies secured the area and communicated a detailed suspect description to additional responding deputies.
The 7-Eleven cashier/victim reported a Hispanic male in his 20’s entered the store wearing a gray hooded sweater. The victim’s detailed description included the suspect may have had on a wig. The victim stated that the Hispanic male approached the counter as if to make a purchased but instead, brandished a black pistol and demanded cash.
LCSO Aviation and Canine Units swarmed the area while receiving additional witness information leading to a residence located at 10740 Clear Lake Loop in the Lago Del Sol Apartment complex.
Deputies located a Hispanic male, David Rodriguez (DOB 07/14/1990) who matched the suspect description. Deputies noted Rodriguez was sweating profusely. Deputies cleared the residence noting in plain view, a gray hooded sweater, several wigs and a large amount of wadded up cash in an open dresser drawer.
Due to the nature of the crime, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Unit responded and assumed the investigation. Based on information obtained, detectives sought a search warrant for Rodriguez’s residence. Located and recovered within Rodriguez’s residence were a gray hooded sweater, wig and a pile of crumpled currency.
Based on evidence obtained during the search warrant and witness statements, detectives arrested David Rodriguez for violation of Florida State Statute 812.13 (2a) – Robbery with a firearm and transported him to the Lee County Jail without incident.
