Second Annual Fort Myers Comic Fest

October 21 @ 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Teens and adults are invited to get into costume and spend the day doing all things related to science fiction, fantasy and popular arts at the second annual Fort Myers Comic Fest. The free event runs from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at the Fort Myers Regional Library and Cornog Plaza, 2450 First St. in downtown Fort Myers. Registration is required for some programs. Attendees will enjoy workshops, karaoke, games, selfie stations, a 3D printer presentation, a costume parade and a cosplay presentation by FGCU’s Cosplay and Costuming Club. Special guest speaker Ian Verhine, an Asian Studies scholar, will be back by popular demand. The Laboratory Theater of Florida will present a Young Adult Story Time. Enjoy live music with Emma from Ursa Major and activities on Cornog Plaza. Sponsored by the Friends of the Fort Myers Library.

3D Printer Technology & 3D Pens

Noon – 1:45 p.m., Library Building, Teen Program Room

Ages 10 and up. Guest speaker Chris Presnell will discuss 3D printing technology. Watch the 3D printer in action and learn about its uses. Afterward you can make a small 3D pen project to take home. Sponsored by the Southwest Florida Library Network. Registration required; space is limited. Please arrive on time, as there is a waiting list.

 

Board Games & More

Noon – 3 p.m., Meeting Room B

Ages 10 and up. Come join us as we play different tabletop games together. Space is limited.

Japanese Culture Class

Noon – 1:15 p.m., Meeting Room CD

Ages 12 and up. Learn fun facts about Japanese culture and language from Ian Verhine. No supplies needed. Registration required; space is limited. Please arrive on time, as there is a waiting list.

Karaoke

Noon – 3:15 p.m., Amphitheater

Ages 10 and up. Come sing karaoke, with a list of more than 12,000 songs.

Video Game Tournament

Noon – 2 p.m., Teen Scene

Ages 13 and up. Compete in our video game tournament using the Wii. Registration required; space is limited. Please arrive on time, as there is a waiting list.

Young Adult Story Time

Noon – 1:15 p.m., Meeting Room A

Ages 12 and up. The Laboratory Theater of Florida presents, “Princess Bride.” There will be an informational session on theater and theater production afterward. Registration required; space is limited. Please arrive on time, as there is a waiting list.

Geek Knits

1 p.m. – 3 p.m., Library Building, Conference Room C

Ages 16 and up. Learn how to crochet geek-themed coasters. Supplies provided. Registration required; space is limited. Please arrive on time, as there is a waiting list.

Cosplay 101

2 p.m. – 3:15 p.m., Meeting Room A

Ages 10 and up. FGCU’s Cosplay and Costuming presents “Cosplay 101.” This presentation provides a beginner’s introduction to cosplay. Registration required; space is limited. Please arrive on time, as there is a waiting list.

Graphic Novels & Manga

2 p.m. – 3:15 p.m., Meeting Room CD

Ages 12 and up. Ian Verhine presents “Graphic Novels and Manga.” Learn about the history of this literature and its influence on our culture and Japanese culture. Find out more about your favorite series and how publication companies choose what stays or what goes. Registration required; space is limited. Please arrive on time, as there is a waiting list.

Costume Parade

3:30 p.m. – 4 p.m., Amphitheater

Do you have a fun costume and want to show it off? Be a part of the Costume Parade. The top finalists will receive a prize. Register in person before the event at the Information Booth on the Plaza.

Comic Fest Rules & Regulations

To ensure everyone’s enjoyment of this event, attendees must observe the following rules:

  • No real or realistic looking weapons allowed.
  • Lack of clothing is not a costume. Shirt, shoes and pants/shorts/skirts must be on at all times.
  • Fort Myers Comic Fest representatives, library staff members, or security personnel reserve the right to inspect costumes and/or accessories.
  • Attendees will abide by the Lee County Library System Patron Code of Conduct. Attendees who do not comply with the rules and regulations will need to leave the property.

*Individuals who do not want to be photographed or recorded are responsible for removing themselves from the area or notifying the photographer of their opt-out status.
